Corruption…is it power or money? December 10, 2008
That old quote by Lord Acton is rining in my ears today;
“Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men.”
as the gravity of the allegations leveraged against the Illinois governor have been made clear.I could be misinterpreting things, but it also seems to me that there is not a mood of shock about the allegations…In fact, realizing how much is at stake with the power of a senate seat, I’m not surprised that this type of thing happened. I’m actually inclined to think that this type of thing happens all the time…This is just one corrupt official who is actually being reprimanded for it.
With the possibility for corruption in so many places of power, why are we the citizens’ of the United States ok with giving the government so much power over spending? The old line of “no taxation without representation” should probably be “no taxation without representation by someone who has passed an ethics test”
