Journaling versus Blogging July 14, 2008
On this never-ending journey of parenting, parternships, and business ventures, I’ve lately written much more in my own private blogosphere. I’ve been thoughtful of not revealing too many of my children’s escapades as they’ve matured a bit, and as we’ve filed more and more patents and cultivated more sophisticated relationships, I have become more concerned with protecting the future interests of the company by not ‘blogging’ too much.
But today, the boys had a few dollars to spend. C decided to purchase fake mustaches and T decided to get fake tattoos.
We got home, and they immediately began dressing up with these ridiculous, old-fashioned mustaches and T approached me (with full mustache in place) and said “these are old-time mustaches, just like there are old-time cars…Mom, some day this will be the old-time, and our car will be from the old-times”. Quite honestly, this struck me as a profound thought from a 5-year old and I was left with a bitter-sweet feeling of melancholy.
He’s right. Someday this will be the old-days. Even my first blog posts look like the ‘old-days’ now.
But I’m glad that I wrote them. I’m glad that they exist. I’m glad that they are open to the eyes of others as we move bitter-sweetly into a future we try to shape.
