Forget the crack. Don’t lunge down the stairs, or you’ll break your mother’s back. April 21, 2007
Several weeks ago C tried to do a handstand at the top of the stairs and flipped over, catapulting himself headfirst to the bottom where he slammed his head into the wall.
Fortunately he was and is fine. This actually caused C to be afraid of walking down stairs for a while. I found myself suddenly lifting my 32 lb wonder up and down the stairs for days.. until last week. C tried to leap from my arms at the top step and I instinctively pulled back to prevent a fall. I realized that my instinct was not so great as I heard some sort of pop. I had thrown out my back in every sense of the phrase. Like labor, I realized you just don’t understand it until it has happened. I actually called my mother-in-law and asked if someone could give me an epidural for it.
On the plus side, as I was laying on the floor C offered to walk on my back. He said “here mommy I be gentle” and then he body slammed himself onto my lower back. A two year old never seemed so terrifying. Surprisingly it actually helped. While not totally better, his little jump really helped. Maybe he has a future as a chiropractor.
Though he then put on his red boots and his red cap and said…”ok Mommy, let’s play baseball.” It’s never all business around here
